Taxi Driver Found a Black Backpack Inside His Cab Left Behind By One of His Passenger. When He Checked Whats Inside the Bag, He Was Surprised and Immediately Went to the Police Station

Raymond who lives in Middleton, New Hampshire, Boston, USA, was a taxi driver who has been working for over 50 years. For years that he has been a taxi driver, he had encountered important things like wallet, key, and cell phones that were left by people inside his cab.

He also found a briefcase with money inside amounting to US$ 100,000. Despite all the things Raymond found in his car that he can take and use, he is an honest man because he would always return those things to its original owner.

One day, while Raymond was driving and finding a potential passenger, he picked up a homeless man from Boston and drove him to a motel. The man had to run some errands so he asked Raymond to stop for 5 minutes and he promised he would return.

However, 30 minutes had passed by, and still, no man came back to his car. Raymond decided to go inside the motel and look for the man, but the receptionist and other workers did not know about the man Raymond was talking about.

Raymond returned to his car feeling confused, and it made him thinking where did the man go. When he reached his car, he noticed a backpack that was left maybe by the man behind his cab. Raymond inspects bag and checks if there was something that can show him the identity of the owner, but what he found inside made him speechless.

Raymond saw the cash amounting to US$ 187,000 inside the bag, but despite the big amount of the money, he never tried to own it. Instead, he brought it to the police station. Raymond said, “That’s the way I am. I don’t steal anything; I’ve never been a crook. It would have been nice to see a lot of money like that though – probably changes lives”.

Upon receiving the money, the Boston police contacted the motel about the information of the man. They immediately manage to find him and ask him about the backpack that was found in Raymond’s cab. The man verified that the money inside the bag was his and he had a receipt to prove it. According to the man, he inherited the money from his deceased parents, and he got it the moment his parents passed away.

Police Commissioner William Evans was praising Raymond for his kind act and honesty when he returned the money he found. According to the officer, “His actions represent the high standards that our department has for our drivers”.

Raymond was also asked why he returned the money he found, he replied with, “I think it was the right thing to do. A lot of people said, ‘You should have kept it,’ but I couldn’t do that”.
